  • Windows Makes Windows 8 Smartphone using In-House Hardware reports Windows8Phones.net

(Aviation-NewsWire.Com, October 14, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Microsoft has again upset software partners by stating they will be using in-house hardware for their new Windows Phone 8 operating system. Microsoft is said to already be testing a smartphone, according to the China Times and WPCentral.

"Details about what it looks like, hardware specifications, launch times, etc., have not been shared with us by the person(s) who have provided the information," WPCentral said in an Oct. 2 blog post. "The only thing we do know is when compared to current WP8 hardware, it’s something unique."

According to China Times reports, Microsoft may have been testing as long as four months ago. The company is said to be planning to debut the phones in the first half of 2013. Apparently the move to use in-house hardware was due to Microsoft not wanting to leave decisions to others regarding necessary portions of the development to other companies.

The move and reaction is similar to that of a similar move that upset hardware partners during their creation of the tablet.

In June, the Surface, which was a tablet created by Microsoft, was introduced. The Surface upset partners who had been building other tablets capable of running Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8 software. The move was said to hurt the relationship between Microsoft and some of its partners.

Acer CEO JT Wang, according to the Financial Times told Microsoft that it should "think twice" about also becoming a hardware maker, as it would "create a huge negative impact for the ecosystem."

"If Microsoft is going to do hardware business, what should we do?" said Wang. "Should we still rely on Microsoft, or should we find other alternatives?"

Google’s purchase of Motorola also concerned hardware partners. While the company said there would be no special treatment regarding the Android system, which Google makes in-house, it leaves companies concerned. Some noted it enables Google to be "involved in the mobile industry at the scale that it wants to be."

Microsoft has been accused of being a nefarious partner with most companies, and seems as lacking in concern regarding its latest alienation from its partners.

As recently as September 5, Nokia has made a point to call itself “the lead mobile partner of Microsoft” and introduced two phones that utilized the Windows Phone 8 Software. HTC introduced two Windows 8 phones less than two weeks later. Samsung, not to be left out, developed a Windows Phone 8 smartphone as well.
